Chapter 7 fork:  Noob Negotiator

“Let’s negotiate,” Pannych says, nodding at Vector.  “That’s just too many noobs, and I don’t know what their fireballs can do to this fort.”  Phyr groans, but Alice and Vector both nod eagerly.

Vector turns and shouts down from the parapet, “Stay your wrath, esteemed noobs!  We wish to negotiate!” He rolls 19 on Speech, so the noobs are stunned into silence and willing to let the half-giant speak.  He lays his rifle down on the parapet and descends one of the hanging ropes, still in place.

“I’m going, too,” Alice says, laying down her bow and satchel before following him.

The noob chief walks on two legs to meet them halfway across the drawbridge.  It groans under her weight and bows slightly, but holds fast. “What could you possibly have to offer for negotiations,” she asks, staring down at them with narrowed eyes.

“That depends on what you want,” Vector says, palms out.

“We want vengeance for our fallen!  We want justice for the slain!  We want the Earth steeped in the blood of the interlopers who trespassed upon our grounds!”

“That is all very sensible,” Vector concedes.  “But please, consider: my friends are new to this world, and did not know of your people’s troubles.”

“What,” the noob chief roars indignantly.  “You and your former compatriots lived among us without bloodshed, if not altogether peacefully - but those two, who came unbidden, spoke not a word in parlay, and decimated our troop in an afternoon - you say they did not know?!”

“Trust me, Birgit,” Alice says, “This whole situation is a lot more complicated than you realize.”  Birgit wrinkles her snout at the elf, and looks back at the half-giant with a scowl.

“Perhaps it is as you say,” she growls, “But I am not inclined to believe you.  Tell me how an elocuen and a dwarf come to Noob Isle, armed to the teeth and skilled in combat, without knowing a single thing about this land.”
