Chapter 7 fork: Alice Argues
Alice says, “It’s like this, chief: those two up there? They’re demigods, OK?” Birgit looks more confused by this than impressed, but Alice carries on: “I know they don’t act like demigods, but these two were literally born yesterday. At least, as far as this world is concerned.”
“What demigods would come down to walk the Earth without studying it first,” Birgit asks.
“Well, they sure rushed in,” Alice says, “And gods know they’re no angels, if you get my meaning.” Birgit stifles what Vector guesses must be a chuckle. “They don’t really know what they’re doing, yet,” the elf continues, “But they’re in my care now, and I’m about to give them a crash course on this world and their place in it as soon as we get back to town. If you deal fairly with them now, then I promise you’ll have no further trouble from them, or they’ll answer to me. So what do you say?”
Birgit stares up at the pair on the parapet for a long moment, then looks back down to Vector and says, “Very well. We negotiate. What are you offering?”
